Careers and One-to-Ones
During the OSC Mid-IB course, students may opt for one-to-one sessions on their Extended Essays or on their University Plans. The One-to-One consultations incur additional charges but the College Forum is free.
Most IB Diploma schools require students to make progress on their Extended Essays during the summer holidays. OSC provides an opportunity for students to consult with an experienced IB teacher on their essays. These advisory sessions have proved to be very popular in the past.
Up to two hours of individual advice is provided. This consultation does not replace the supervision that students receive from their schools and must be acknowledged in the essay.
At the end of the consultation, the adviser writes a full report on the discussions. This is provided for the student and a copy is sent to the student's school.
This is an individual and personal careers advice consultation conducted by an experienced IB Careers Counsellor. Each one-to-one appointment lasts for an hour and is scheduled during your free time.
A Personal Careers Consultation allows you to:
| discuss your personal ambitions and explore your own career preferences | |
| obtain advice on the choice of courses available | |
| find out how to obtain prospectuses and application forms | |
| find out the Diploma grades and/or SAT scores required for your preferred courses and colleges | |
| start work on the application procedure and required essays and prepare your personal statement | |
| receive a report which will summarise your discussion and the advice you were given |
In week 2 we organise a unique College Forum of Admissions Officers from 25 different institutions who visit us to tell you about their colleges, courses and requirements. In addition our college counsellor will be on hand to:
| explain application procedures to US colleges | |
| provide SAT and IB Diploma scores required for different courses and colleges | |
| suggest how to make your personal essay powerful and effective | |
| offer advice on financial aid |
