IB Revision guides for History

History Paper 1: Document Based Questions

A comprehensive, detailed revision guide encompassing all three prescribed subjects for the Document Based Questions in Paper 1. Included in the guide are specific hints on how to answer all four types of questions, together with a model answer for each of the three subjects which is then followed by questions for students to work through themselves. It will also provide useful material for some topics in Papers 2 and 3.

A revised edition of History Paper 1: Document Based Questions will be available later this year to coincide with 2008/9 syllabus changes.

The current guide available is only valid up to 2009 exams.

History Paper 2: The Cold War

This book is a pro-active student revision guide that has been written around 23 essay titles and offers very specific help on planning and writing essays as well as outline answers. The book provides a detailed and thorough account of the four main phases of the Cold War and can also be used as a resource for Papers 1 and 3.

History Paper 2: The Rise and Rule of Single Party States

This book covers four of the main single party states - Russia, China, Italy and Germany - for Topic 3 of Paper 2. It provides a clear and detailed explanation of the rise and rule of the four single party states in question. The text is structured around key questions and issues. A range of essays and partial answers are provided as well as advice on how to approach IB History essay questions, helping to deepen a student's understanding of the subject. The guide also provides useful material for Paper 1and Paper 3

Authors

Joe Gauci read Modern History at Lincoln College, Oxford and has been teaching for 24 years. He is particularly interested in modern Chinese and Italian history, the First World War and the English Civil War. His favourite person in history, reassuringly, is not one of the modern single party dictators but the tolerant and humane Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England (1653-58). Joe has taught IB History for the last 16 years at Malvern College, Worcestershire, England where he oversees its academic life as Director of Studies. He has been a valued member of OSC's Spring Revision Course and Summer School teaching staff since 1998.

Sam Olofsson studied History at Lund University, Sweden and has taught it for the last 20 years at Malmö Borgarskola in Sweden, specialising in IB History since 1993. Sam is particularly interested in teaching methodology and he is an important member of the OSC teaching team on our Spring Revision courses at Oxford as well as the Boston Summer School.
